Brief Overview

Welcome to the website of the 6,500km² Goulburn River experimental catchment. The catchment was originally set up for the Scaling and Assimilation of Soil Moisture and Streamflow project (SASMAS). Since the installation of the first instrumentation in 2002, additional instruments have been installed for further research projects studying soil carbon fluxes (MADCAP - Merriwa and District Carbon Analysis Project), and the spatial distribution of surface soil moisture within remote sensing footprints at L-band (NAFE - National Airborne Field Experiments).

Through this website you are able to access the description of the catchment and its associated instruments. Long-term monitoring data from the Goulburn River catchment is available through the SASMAS project portal. Other short term intensive monitoring data is available through the various other project portals through which they were collected.
